Princesa

Almost every day I (Angie) take our two silly street dogs, Princesa and Bigotes (Princess and Moustache), for a walk around the neighborhood. On Saturday evening we were walking along talking to Edgar, a local guard, when a cat took off in front of us out into the street and Princesa followed immediately behind it. Unfortunately there was a car coming and it hit her and ran her over.

It was awful. I assumed she was dead but she quickly jumped up and ran over to me on the sidewalk, not using her back left leg which was bleeding. In the next few minutes I was surrounded by the people who live on that street, offering help, letting me use their phone to call Dave so he could call the vet, bringing me a towel to wrap her leg and taking off to go let our guard, Urbina, and Dave know and bring them back to where I was.Princesa

It was incredible to see the care and concern of complete strangers so willing to help me! Natalia offered to take us to the vet down the street so we loaded our bleeding dog into her back seat and off we went. However, our local vet does not have an X-ray machine so we called another vet who said they were closing in five minutes but they would wait for us. How great is that! We arrived, they did an x ray and miraculously found no broken bones or internal bleeding so they stitched up her back legs and Natalia brought us back home.

It was a horrible experience while at the same time so encouraging to be so well cared for and see God providing everything we needed to save our dog. What a blessing! Princesa is now slowly recuperating and clearly not happy to be stuck inside the house but hopefully in a few days she’ll be back to running on our street…just hopefully not in front of any cars…
